These are luxury dress leathers, and wear depends entirely on proper care. They’re identified by squared, regular checks. Smaller checks are more flexible and less prone to cracking, while larger checks are typically used on heel counters. Boots may be made with pieced feet or a more expensive one-piece full vamp. Smaller checks should be placed on the forefoot. Cracking can occur if the leather dries or deteriorates between scales, as rigid scales work against more flexible areas. Applying a very thin layer of Lexol, especially between scales after cleaning, helps prevent this and is recommended for all reptile leathers.
