Although it lacks the benefits of a “true” Myler mouthpiece, it has a distinctive curve so the bars of the bit wrap around the horse’s bar and lips which make the bit more comfortable. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

NO Independent Side Movement

Sweet Iron Mouthpiece

Curved Mouthpiece

Copper Inlay

Notes: Popular with riders who are more comfortable with a traditional design, but we recommend that you try the 01, 02, or 03 to get the full benefit of Myler features at the same Level. The 7" Flat Shank is stainless steel and curved slightly back towards the horse, with a flat-top purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment. The Flat Shank has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other. The purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. It has an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. The flat shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.

Action: Indirect

Discipline: Western

Degree of Leverage: Moderate

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0373/3769/4347/files/0005882_hbt-shank-with-correctional-ported-barrel-mb-41pb_fe5a8bdf-e45e-44b8-9f05-4f5ee735248c.jpg?v=1791911400
